On Being Busy

On Being Busy

Busy. How often do we hear ourselves say that word and yet, it annoys us too? We are all quite busy and most of us know that we are busy and yet, we feel a need to echo the thought that feels such a weight on our shoulders. Busy, being busy, staying busy, it’s a busy time, a busy year, a busy Spring, we’re so busy…I’m sick of it. I’m sick of busy, talking about it, hearing about it and mostly, living it. It’s not what I had envisioned as a mother. I knew little people would take lots of care and love, but I hadn’t known about the myriad of activities that would beckon them, beckon me into the abyss of busy. Being busy is a slippery slope, yet I can’t find my way back to the plateau of life I crave.

What can we do? What can you do? What can be done? I’m not sure. There’s so much to be done and do, how do we choose? I think I have an idea, though I can’t be sure if it will work. Perhaps if we all do one thing, one thing really well, to make the world a bit better of a place and then, we don’t worry about much else. Sure, life is life, but choose deliberately to give your time to the place where your heart lies. Perhaps if we do the one thing well that we adore, quality would surpass quantity and we would be more content with where our time lies. It’s a gift you know, your time is a gift, so don’t let’s waste it. Busy is a cop out for too much mess that has little value or significance. Be intentional, not busy. We can do it together.
