Amos the Schoolboy

Amos the Schoolboy

Amos the schoolboy, he’s just three years old, but he goes to public school three whole days a week with his two brothers and sister. Amos the schoolboy, started big boy school on his third birthday, and the day was so very long for one of us. Amos the schoolboy, has a mama that fills his backpack each morning, including his favorite blankie still warm from a cozy crib. Amos the schoolboy, in a special needs class of seven children, has three teachers who are truly amazing with bountiful qualities of patience, kindness, loving hands, encouragement, and supportive to the parents like myself. Amos the schoolboy, a student for nearly a month now, has learned to walk a bit of distance holding my hand rather than insisting on being carried. Amos the schoolboy, with a newfound love of music, almost claps his hands and happily sits in a row of chairs alongside his classmates. Amos the schoolboy, looking so very at home when I recently peered through the glass, offered a reassuring view to the mama who dreaded sending her little boy, still in diapers, to spend his days at school. Amos the schoolboy, made me so very proud when we left his classroom one afternoon last week and he stopped at the water fountain, said “Wa-Wa” and when I pushed the button, lo and behold, he leaned forward and got himself a drink.

Amos the schoolboy, not learning math or reading or even new words, has taught his mama that amazing gifts can be found hidden in the small stuff too, like little boys learning to hold hands or mastering a sip from the water fountain.
